Team decision-making is an inseparable part of various businesses’ development and partnership relations. Group decision-making (GDM) enables team members and business partners to meet all parties’ interests and needs and make their interaction effective. Thus, in the article A Literature Review of the Concepts of Resilience and Sustainability in Group Decision-Making, Ardebili and Padoano discuss the most effective approaches to support sustainable and resilient team decisions to satisfy all participants’ interests and achieve long- and short-term goals.
People frequently must find compromises to continue their cooperation effectively, and team decision-making’s primary task is to include all individuals’ interests to accomplish the established objectives. Ardebili and Padoano’s article A Literature Review of the Concepts of Resilience and Sustainability in Group Decision-Making determines seven critical factors influencing sustainable and resilient GDM: honesty, self-confidence, transparency, communication and knowledge sharing, degree of difficulty of collecting data, data security, and consensus (2020). The authors explain that finding a solution satisfying all decision-makers’ requirements and preferences is challenging, but all participants must focus on common goals to determine the most appropriate decisions. Team members’ overconfidence makes a group unable to make a decision and achieve its goals. Communication problems and knowledge sharing also adversely affect decision-making because these factors make individuals unable to find a common language and consider their own interests and other parties’ needs. Likewise, transparency and sharing relevant information with team members play a vital role in effective decision-making because all members should be aware of potential risks and outcomes to make the overall process fair. As a result, the article identifies critical aspects of GDM and concentrates on approaches to make joint or compromise decisions.
The study provides crucial information to help leaders and team members make correct decisions while considering all individuals’ interests and expectations. Appropriate solutions result from satisfying all parties’ needs because this approach makes team members’ interactions effective and promising. This article has made me realize the importance of honesty, transparency, self-confidence, and effective communication in decision-making since these factors enable people to consider each other’s requirements and accomplish their shared objectives. Hence, I plan to make my team recognize these factors as our core values to encourage each member to share relevant information, discuss their concerns, and remain honest despite various misunderstandings and obstacles. Although self-confidence is essential in GDM, overconfidence negatively affects decision-making, explaining why I should motivate all parties to focus not only on their goals but also on others’ purposes and expectations. I will inform team members that consensus is a group’s primary objective, proving that a decision cannot be made until everyone is satisfied with the final choice. Therefore, this approach can help me meet group members’ needs and interests, establish long-term relationships with these individuals, and achieve the goals that will make our cooperation efficient and comfortable.
In conclusion, Ardebili and Padoano’s article discusses the most crucial factors of decision-making, enabling leaders and team members to understand what values they should follow to find appropriate solutions. Since the study provides compelling evidence that honesty, self-confidence, transparency, communication and knowledge sharing, degree of difficulty of collecting data, data security, and consensus are critical parts of GDM, I plan to make my team recognize these factors as our shared values that will regulate our cooperation. Thus, this method can help me establish effective relationships with team members, satisfy all individuals’ interests, and achieve our objectives.
