How to Motivate Yourself for Every Day in College

How to Motivate Yourself for College

Sometimes, it’s so hard to start doing something. Some students think that there is no need to write academic papers, learn complicated things, and waste time researching. Then, a person faces a problem of finding the source of inspiration and motivation.

15 Motivation Rules

We offer 15 ways that will help you forget about “I’ll do that later” and proceed to your task immediately.

  1. Make your studying place as comfortable and pleasant as possible
The best way to motivate yourself is to turn your working place into a cozy one. Think of the appropriate lighting, a comfortable chair, and a table. There must be also not too hot or cold. You should associate this procedure with something really pleasant and nice.
  2. Supply yourself with everything required
The less you distract yourself from work, the more you’ll do. Take a pencil, a pen, a ruler, a sharpener, textbooks, calculator (if necessary), copybooks, and other required things.
  3. Prepare a quick snack
Be ready that you can feel hungry. Cooking distracts and takes some time. That’s why it’s better to have a sandwich with a glass of juice or some other drink ready and nearby.
  4. Get rid of “distractors”
Take care of your comfort and delete everything that annoys you. It can be phone calls, uncomfortable clothes, something unfixed, etc. Psychologists also recommend switching off phones and computers because they may tempt you to watch something on YouTube or talk and call somebody.
  5. Set a goal
Each person should have a final destination. It can be a promising career, getting a job abroad, or earning enough to become prosperous.
  6. Reward yourself for each achievement
If your task was to write an essay and you managed to get the score you needed, you should reward yourself. The prize can vary. It can be your favorite dish, some entertainment program, shopping, SPA procedures, hiking, a visit to a theatre/cinema/opera, etc.
  7. Make a plan and make it possible
There should be a schedule and you should make it possible to perform. Don’t overload yourself with a number of tasks you won’t be able to perform. It’s better to do everything in advance and not to be in a hurry. The pressure makes studies unbearable. Try to divide your tasks wisely but don’t forget to have at least one day off. Your goal is to achieve something but not to die because of exhaustion.
  8. Never postpone the task
Try to follow your plan and do not postpone the task. There is such a tendency that if you delay the task once, you’ll postpone it constantly. Finally, you’ll hate everything you do, and you’ll do it chaotically and haphazardly.
  9. Do at least something
Some psychologists say that the best way to do something is to start doing it. Try to devote at least 20 minutes a day to the task you should perform, and you may get inspired while working and finish the task earlier.
  10. Don’t compare studies and things you like
Avoid thoughts which sound like “What can I do instead of studies?” Yes, it’s so pleasant to think of a movie you can watch or a play you want to see but what’s the use of it when you neither rest not do your job. There must be time for work and time for rest. Otherwise, you’ll certainly prefer taking some rest to learning.
  11. Find someone who can stimulate
The rivalry is a good stimulation. You can think of someone who can become your best competitor. It can be your best friend or a person who you don’t like. The main thing is not to overdo.
  12. Analyze the experience of different successful personalities
Think of someone who has achieved a lot. Analyze the way to the success of that person. Was it just luck or diligent and persistent work? Did that person study or was that person illiterate? Then, answer the following question “Will the result of MY study impact MY future?” If yes, then be successful.
  13. Make your dreams visual
Some people turn their dreams into pictures with the help of Photoshop and hang them somewhere in the working place. You can do that as well and look at that picture from time to time before and after studies.
  14. Write down  the reasons which prevent you from the study
Sometimes, when a person lacks inspiration there is the need to write down the reasons. Make a table of pros and cons of your laziness. Think about what you’ll have due to your persistent studies, and what you’ll achieve having too much of rest.
  15. Failure is only a part of your success
Don’t be upset in case you fail to cope with some tasks. It’s almost impossible to skate and have no bruises. Only professionals can avoid injuries. You should also be ready to face problems and overcome them. That’s just a step to your happy future.

Harvard Inspires Students to Study Hard

When people enter Harvard University, they can find there a list of 15 motivation issues. Here are some of them:

  • If you prefer sleep to studies, you’ll dream about your success. If you choose studies instead of sleep, you’ll make your dreams come true.
  • If you don’t sweat while working, then you don’t work at all.
  • Your salary equals the quality of your education and knowledge.
  • Time flies too fast.
  • People who invest in the future are realists.
  • Today it’s your weakness and laziness and tomorrow will be your bitter tears.
  • The study is the easiest part of adulthood. If you cannot cope with it, then what can you cope with?

These issues sound motivating, don’t they? Find your own inspiration and do your best to make your dreams come true. Psychologists believe that only those who spend much time and efforts on studies can take delight in the outcome. By the way, you should see your chances for success in proper perspective. It will be foolish to enter a college connected with foreign languages when you poorly speak your native language. Look for the education that fits your knowledge, skills, and personal preferences.
