Scholarship Essay on Community Service

June 27, 2014

To become involved in community service, an individual should first acquire the kind of education that will provide the skills needed in carrying out a community service. Given that community service is a wide field, it is important that when seeking an education, one should specialize in the field of community service in which one plans to work. The field of community service that I am interested in is helping individuals to develop parenting skills.

Parenting can be very rewarding; it can also be very frustrating if one is not prepared to have children. There is very little training that is offered to expectant mothers and fathers, and very few people seek training before deciding to become parents. This has resulted in a situation where parenting skills are taken for granted. By providing parenting education through community service, perhaps I will be able to offer parents and those who intend to become parents, the kind of knowledge that will enable them to carry out their parental roles in a positive, nurturing manner….

Descriptive Essay on My Mother

My mother is without doubt the most important person in my life and the most complete individual I know.

She is very beautiful and has the kindest eyes that I have ever seen. She not only worked hard to ensure that I had a good upbringing, but was also very strict and often punished me whenever I went wrong. Even though I did not like the punishment then, I now look back and realize that it was meant to lovingly correct me and help me to follow the right path when growing up.

My siblings and I have always taken pride in the appearance of our mother, especially her lovely long hair. I remember whenever my mother came to visit us at school, other pupils would urge us to ask our mother to remove the pins from her hair so they could see the long well-kept hair. Even though I have seen very many beautiful people, very few ladies match the beauty of my mother….

Sample Descriptive Essay on My Favorite Food

Today, there are many delicious foods easily available. I sometime wonder how life was in the ancient past when they did not have ease of access to food as we do today.

However, though I can find food of all kinds in our stores there are foods that stand out as my favorite.

I easily walk past the pizzas, the fluffy pasties, pies, and cream cakes. But when I sit in the restaurant and see the words oxtail stew, with creamed spinach and potatoes I positively drool.

The Waitron places the crispy warm bread rolls beside me on a white plate. In front of me were yellow balls of butter. Next, she placed in front of me a bowl of creamed spinach, dark green finely cut with the white cream and steam coming from it advertising it was freshly cooked. I inhaled the warm aroma unique to spinach. Beside it was a bowl with smooth white mashed potato. Rich creamy smooth and firm from the butter and milk that had been beaten into it to add to its flavor and smooth texture.

Then came the bowl full of oxtail stew. Its rich dark brown color was set off by the white bowl it was in. The gravy was thick and rich. I could smell the aroma of beef, garlic, and herbs and spices drifting up from it into my nose. My mouth watered in anticipation….

Philosophy of Supervision Paper

February 25, 2014

Supervision is an integral part of a job, and its presence is more than wanted for employees to complete work successfully. As such, it is crucial for a company, an institution or an establishment to setup a supervisory body not only to ensure that work is completed but also accomplish other necessary roles. Thus, supervisors need to have an implementable plan to use while at work. This allows them to plan their way around their job, and succeed in overseeing everything that matters. Moreover, supervisors work to provide the expected results to the stakeholders or management body they are working for in a clinic, for example.

How and When to Implement Multiple Roles in Supervision
In a clinic, the management or stakeholders employ supervisors who are in charge of other subordinate staff members. In this job position, it is expected that the supervisor checks whether the other workers are accomplishing their work as per the management’s expectations. Thus, the supervisor checks on various factors related to the work being done in the establishment. For instance, the supervisor is responsible for checking the time other staff members report for work. This ensures that all members of the workforce deliver their services within the expected period. Hence, for one to gain that position as a supervisor they have to possess various commendable qualities, for example, being diligent workers who are always on time to deliver their services as expected. When other staff members are reporting, the supervisors have to reach the place of work before everybody. This gives provides them with the opportunity to note the time when other members reported (Sarnat, 2012).

Supervisors have the overall duty to check the quality of other members’ jobs. Hence, the supervisors must have the appropriate knowledge and skills to determine whether a subordinate’s work is up to standard or not. If a subordinate’s work is substandard, for example, the supervisor needs to know exactly what to adjust or ask the staff member to change. As mentioned earlier, it is essential that supervisors possess various characteristics, in this case, vast knowledge about the field they are overseeing….

Definition Essay on Gender

February 11, 2014

The English dictionary defines gender as a word that is commonly used to refer to the quality of a human being either masculine or feminine. However, the word gender in modern times is used to refer to the debate on the role of both male and female members of society. In the past years the roles of both men and women were clearly defined with the men being the breadwinners while the women were the care providers for both the children and the men who were their husbands.

Why I want a wife
However, with the structure of society having changed so drastically in the past few years, the clear line that defined the role of both men and women has now been blurred as their roles have overlapped with time. It is no longer sufficient to classify the male gender as the provider for the family or the female gender as the caregiver for the family. The definition of both male and female sexes is no longer clear with members of both sexes performing roles that were initially reserved for the other gender. Men are no longer the sole providers for their families as women have been economically empowered and are now running big companies competing with their male counterparts. Women are also not the sole caregivers for their children as more men are now opting to become stay at home dads so that they can take care of their children….

Essay: Merger Analysis Outline

October 29, 2013

A. Comparison between the two companies.
Traditionally hierarchy has a control chain of command and structure for both Utah and Opera symphony. This process of joining all these systems from different organizations is referred to as integration. An organization’s life cycle fits well within the aspect of integration; cycles of acquisition in which enterprises by come into partnership with other organizations and eventually do away with other businesses. The most significant thing for one to note is the acquisition of the business documents of the organization within the merger (Bergelin, 2000). It is an efficient way and essential element of many organizations. Before Utah symphony was merged with opera symphony its financial status was uninviting. Scott Parker who is the chairperson of the board understood the situation and noted it. The fall of the economy and event of 9/11 aggravated the situation. However, before the economies fall and 9/11, symphony was at a verge of deficit situation. Scott Parker assumed his position and tried to make the situation lesser.

Emphasis is laid on the success of the organization and the power of leadership. In both companies, employees are the actual performers and their input is absorbed from the top to the lowest level of their management, and they are considered for worthy. The central issue that affected the companies is the structure of the organization because they differed in ideas. The boards of directors were answerable to by the Music Directors and CEO’s. Lockhard saw it as an affront to his dignity by reporting to Ewers even though she was energetic and a good listener. Ewers compulsory approach may be good in some circumstances, but it would hinder the flexibility of the organization and depress employee’s morale of working. This would affect Utah Opera since it does not keep his orchestra but entirely depend on Utah symphony’s services. Opera could not function on its own without an orchestra, and it would be disband. Utah symphony has a significant role in work flow. It influences information flow, job responsibilities and increases communication network both in and out of the organization. …

Commissioning and Final Acceptance of Projects

October 9, 2013

This paper highlights the ways in which to handle conflict between contractors and clients. In this sample, the contractor was tasked with the construction of a building. However, during the commissioning process of the building, an inspection report by a building inspector and engineer revealed that there were minor defects in the HVAC system. Therefore, as the agent representing my client, I am tasked with dealing with both the client and the contractor so as to come up with an amicable solution with regards to the problem at hand.

Commissioning Process
The commissioning process was done by a professional building inspector and engineer as stipulated by the contract between the civil engineer and the representatives of the client. The contractor was to deliver the building as fully operational. The same company was to be paid a lump sum that would cater for all costs. This would include the hiring of another electrical firm to handle all electrical installations. The HVAC system was part of the electrical system. However, the main contractor wanted to be paid an extra sum to repair the HVAC system but the client refused to do so stating that those were not the terms of agreement as stipulated by their contract. Therefore, I acted as the mediator in this case. “The primary benefit of mediation is risk and cost control. Because the parties arrive at the solution, the disputants maintain control of the entire process.” (Kelsey 2010: 1)….

Agenda Setting Theory Essay

September 4, 2013

According to early proponents of the theory (Marx McCombs and Donald Shaw), the media set the agenda for all discussions in the society based on the Agenda setting theory. Agenda-setting theory proposes that the media is a powerful tool used by the media, to shape public opinion concerning events taking place in society. The media set the agenda for discussion in politics, science, and socio-economic issues. The media have the power to tell the society on the issues that are relevant. The issues may not be necessary to the lives of the citizens at the moment.

The media also creates public awareness on certain core issues that affect the society. In most cases, the media and the press does not reflect the reality in the society. The core issues on the press depend on their vital interests concerning certain politicians and socio-economic issues that should be presented to the public. The media and the press ensure that they filter and shape reality based on their own interests or the interest of popular politicians in the society. In particular, the press and the media concentrate on certain issues so that the public can view such issues as more crucial than other issues….
