How to Choose a Title for an Essay

There is no doubt that the title is a very important part of a scientific work or a work of art, whether it is a novel, a song, or a dissertation. The first component people notice is the title. It may be short, only consisting of one or two words, but it definitely says something important to potential readers, viewers, or listeners.

When people have to write an essay, a typical situation looks like this: the student comes up with an idea, narrows the topic, then writes a title, and then begins writing the paper. This may work pretty well if you do everything in that order. However, you might try choosing a title after you finish writing the essay. That way you will definitely know what your essay is all about, what the key points in your work are, and what you should emphasize in your title to draw the readers’ attention to your work. Did you know that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak didn’t have a name for their company when they founded what is now called “Apple?” They actually came up with the name later. The same can be applied to your essay. Plan what to write and how to write it first, not what to call it. By the way, you can choose a working title for your essay and then change it later as you think of new ideas or a different aspect of the problem. Choosing a title that suits your essay best is the finishing touch to your work….

How to Select Quotes for an Essay

Any kind of creative work needs some kind of inspiration. If you have to write an essay, you need to think of a couple of original ideas and express them in your work. However, your ideas might not be understood, no matter how insightful or suitable they are. Often your knowledge and skills are just not enough. That’s exactly the time you should find some quotes to support your arguments.

Choosing a quotation is not as easy as it may seem at first. There are a couple of points to consider. You need support from a source that is considered reliable. That means the writer or creator of the source should be considered an expert in that field. Furthermore, the quote should come from a scholarly source, preferably peer-reviewed. You should consult your online school database for sources first. Checking the credibility of a quote on a website is a bit more difficult, yet not impossible.

The author of the source should be listed, as well as a publishing date or update. Besides knowing that the author is an expert in the area in which you are researching, the author’s affiliation with an organization should also be provided. When in doubt, you can always ask your teacher for an advice….

Definition Essay on Friendship

July 11, 2014

Friendship is a word we are all familiar with, and most of us assume we have friends. But do we? Webster’s Dictionary defines it as, ” the state of being friends: the relationship between friends: a friendly feeling or attitude.” To most people friendship assumes certain rights and privileges. To me a friend is not only a person who has rights in my life. Friends are those who take seriously the duties, obligations and responsibilities of friendship.

Everyone knows that when you are friends with someone they assume certain rights and privileges. For example, my friends can drop in without an appointment, phone me late at night, ask for some cash until payday, and expect to be invited to my celebratory parties. They assume I will give them a lift when their car is broken, babysit their kids, and listen to the updates of their love life or lack of it. They can open my fridge and make a snack and offer me a cup of coffee in my own kitchen. When they are sad or guilty and share their secrets with me. To the degree, I allow this so I am considered a good friend. …

Are drugs a curse in society?
In our generation, we have access to an array of drugs on a scale never before seen by humankind. Most people, when you mention drugs, tend to think immediately of street and recreational drugs, such as heroin, ecstasy, cocaine and marijuana. However, they are only a few of the thousands of kinds of drugs consumed. Doctors today prescribe drugs daily, and the variety of kinds, and uses, is endless. The issue; is this a good practice in our society. Or is it a curse. The evidence reveals drugs are a benefit to society.

The results of taking these drugs is largely positive. Since medicine moved to using pharmaceutical drugs many people suffering from diseases have been helped. Either, prevented from getting disease, cured when diseased, or able to live comfortably with the disease. Smallpox was entirely wiped out by a vaccination developed by Fleming in 1800. Polio a disease that causes permanent paralysis has almost been eradicated by vaccinations.

Those living with diabetes’s, and HIV, have been able to live comfortably with their particular disease because of the use of daily drug treatments. Multitudes with depression have benefited by taking Prozac, and various drugs, such as Valium and Dexedrine.

The countless numbers of people who take antibiotics for a multitude of causes often recover, where if they did not have antibiotics they would have died. In an age of transplants, and implants, drugs stop the body from rejecting the new material, and thus the recipient lives. Even marijuana is being used as medicine for cancer patients. If you count the cost, it is clear that the use of drugs in society has positive results….
